As a prelude to his solo exhibition at Proyecto AMIL -Sírvete de mi, sírveme de ti- Iván Argote (CO, 1983) will give a talk about his recent projects and invite us to participate in the making of a new sculpture: a 4 meter long chain cast in polyurethane from the hands of friends and members of the audience. This piece was started in Paris, where the artist resides, and will be completed in Lima at this event.
The sculpture, which bears the same name of the exhibition, works as both an emblem of the self as individual and a metaphor of a larger social body; drawing attention to ideas such as intimacy and solidarity, but also to the distances embedded in social and cultural structures.
Iván Argote (CO, 1983) lives and works in Paris. In his work, the artist deals with the way that man relates to the myriad of changes that take place daily in the historical, economic, political and moral realms. His aim is to question the role of subjectivity in the revision of these concepts. Argote involves the body and emotions in the construction of his thinking, and develops methods to generate reflections on the way we construct certainty in relation with politics and history. By creating interventions and performances for the public space, which are sometimes further developed in the format of films and installations, the artist explores the city as a space of transformation. His work has been shown around the world.

Este evento se llevará a cabo en Tupac, Barranco.
Como preludio a su exposición individual en Proyecto AMIL -Sírvete de mi, sírveme de ti- Iván Argote (CO, 1983) nos hablará acerca de sus proyectos más recientes y nos invitará a participar en la producción de su nueva escultura: una cadena de alrededor de 4 metros de largo, moldeada en poliuretano, a partir de las manos de amigos y miembros de la audiencia. Esta pieza se inició en París, donde el artista reside, y se completará en este evento en Lima.
La escultura, que lleva el mismo nombre que la exposición, no sólo funciona como un emblema del self y/o de lo individual, sino que constituye una metáfora de un cuerpo social más amplio; planteando una reflexión en torno a ideas como intimidad y solidaridad, pero también sobre las distancias arraigadas en las estructuras sociales y culturales.
Iván Argote (CO, 1983) vive y trabaja en París. En su trabajo, el artista reflexiona acerca de la forma en que el hombre se relaciona con los innumerables cambios que tienen lugar todos los días en los planos históricos, económicos, políticos y morales. Su objetivo es interrogar el rol de la subjetividad en la revisión de estos conceptos. Argote implica al cuerpo y las emociones en la construcción de su pensamiento, y desarrolla métodos para generar una reflexión sobre la forma en que construimos certezas en torno a la política y la historia. A través de la creación de intervenciones y performances para el espacio público, que muchas veces continúa desarrollando en el formato de películas e instalaciones, el artista explora la ciudad como espacio de transformación. Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en varias ciudades alrededor del mundo.
