The book HAWAPI 2018 - Pondores gathers documentation and reflections from the sixth edition of HAWAPI (https://www.hawapi.org), an independent art project that annually invites artists to stay for short periods in areas that have been affected by social, political, economic and environmental problems to develop context responsive projects.
The sixth edition of HAWAPI was held in Colombia during November 2018, in the Territorial Area of Training and Reincorporation (ETCR) Amaury Rodríguez, located in Pondores (La Guajira). The ETCR Amaury Rodríguez is one of the twenty-four spaces that were established on Colombian territory as part of the Peace Agreement signed between the Colombian Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) on 24 November 2016. This space houses approximately two hundred and fifty inhabitants, mostly ex-combatants of FARC-EP, waiting for rehabilitation into civilian life.
Between 3 and 12 November 2018, the twelve artists invited to participate in the sixth edition of HAWAPI stayed at the ETCR Amaury Rodríguez where they made a series of works and cultural activities that reflect on the Peace Process in Colombia and the current situation in the ETCR. Subsequently, in February 2019, the collective exhibition HAWAPI 2018 - Pondores, curated by Andrea Muñoz, was held at Espacio El Dorado (Bogotá).
During this book lauch, Maxim Holland (Director of HAWAPI), Susie Quillinan (Editor of HAWAPI publications), Andrea Muñoz (Curator of the sixth edition of HAWAPI at Espacio El Dorado) and Ralph Bauer (Designer of the book HAWAPI 2018), will re-evaluate the Colombian edition of HAWAPI and discuss the challenges involved in translating this complex experience in the format of a publication.

El libro HAWAPI 2018 - Pondores reúne documentación y reflexiones sobre la sexta edición de HAWAPI (https://www.hawapi.org), proyecto de arte independiente, que cada año invita a artistas a residir por periodos cortos en zonas que han sido afectadas por problemáticas sociales, políticas, económicas y ambientales, para desarrollar proyectos que respondan al contexto.
La sexta edición de HAWAPI se realizó en Colombia, durante noviembre de 2018, en el Espacio Territorial de Capacitación y Reincorporación (ETCR) Amaury Rodríguez, localizado en Pondores (La Guajira). El ETCR Amaury Rodríguez es uno de los veinticuatro espacios que se establecieron en suelo colombiano como parte del Acuerdo de Paz firmado entre el Gobierno Colombiano y las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC-EP) el 24 de noviembre de 2016. Dicho espacio alberga aproximadamente doscientos cincuenta habitantes, la mayoría excombatientes de las FARC-EP, que esperan su reincorporación a la vida civil.
Entre el 3 y el 12 de noviembre de 2018, los doce artistas invitados a participar en esta sexta edición de HAWAPI, permanecieron en el ETCR Amaury Rodríguez donde realizaron una serie de obras y actividades culturales que reflexionan sobre el Proceso de Paz en Colombia y la situación actual en el ETCR. Posteriormente, en febrero del 2019, inauguró la exposición colectiva HAWAPI 2018 – Pondores, curada por Andrea Muñoz en el Espacio El Dorado (Bogotá).
Durante la presentación del libro, Maxim Holland (director de HAWAPI), Susie Quillinan (editora de las publicaciones de HAWAPI), Andrea Muñoz (curadora de la sexta edición de HAWAPI en el Espacio El Dorado) y Ralph Bauer (diseñador del libro HAWAPI 2018), reevaluarán la edición colombiana de HAWAPI y conversarán acerca del reto que ha implicado traducir esta compleja experiencia al formato de una publicación.
