Aggregate States of Matters is a film that the artist is currently shooting in Peru that will be released in May this year in the context of the exhibition Time, Forward! at the V-A-C Zattere in Venice. Barba has consistently pushed the boundaries of film by exploring its spatiotemporal dimension and experimenting with time-based forms.
For her new film, shot in Peru, Barba wants to work cinematically with the communities that are affected (for good and bad) by the actual glacier (which glacier? Where?) melting and their geological time. The slow disapearance of the glacier is creating a sort of goldrush for the farming communities with new opportunities and changes for their lives - even it
it is temporary. It will address, like in my previous films, human attempts to tame nature and is comprised of similar collective performances in which the memories of the characters involved interact with the scenario in the landscape.
"Throughout my work, I question how we occupy space by investigating crisis
through an unusual treatment of time and language. Time is conceived as an
accumulation, an archive, rather than a linear progression. Language is
abstracted, eluding its typical semiotic function. The destabilizing effects of the
stories are activated by my use of both fundamental concepts (time and
language) in these non-traditional ways. Spatial examination unfolds through the
deconstruction of the cinematic apparatus and filmic environment, which is
constituted both by film’s physical materials—projectors, screens and
celluloid— and its ambient elements: time, space, light and sound. Therefore, I
use cinema in order to stage an intervention in a real space, confronting the
division between public and private, fantasy and reality.”

Aggregate States of Matters es una película que el artista está rodando actualmente en Perú y que se estrenará en mayo de este año en el contexto de la exposición Time, Forward! en el V-A-C Zattere en Venecia. Barba ha empujado constantemente los límites de la película al explorar su dimensión espaciotemporal y experimentar con formas basadas en el tiempo.
Para su nueva película, rodada en Perú, Barba quiere trabajar cinematográficamente con las comunidades afectadas (para bien y para mal) por el deshielo glaciar y su tiempo geológico. La lenta desaparición del glaciar está creando una especie de fiebre del oro para las comunidades agrícolas con nuevas oportunidades y cambios para sus vidas, incluso si solo es temporal. Como en sus películas anteriores, abordará, los intentos humanos de domesticar la naturaleza y se compone de actuaciones colectivas similares en las que los recuerdos de los personajes involucrados interactúan con el escenario en el paisaje.
"A lo largo de mi trabajo, cuestiono cómo ocupamos el espacio investigando la crisis a través de un tratamiento inusual del tiempo y el lenguaje. El tiempo se concibe como una acumulación, un archivo, en lugar de una progresión lineal. El lenguaje se abstrae, eludiendo su función semiótica típica. Los efectos desestabilizadores de la las historias son activados por mi uso de ambos conceptos fundamentales (tiempo y lenguaje) en estas formas no tradicionales. El examen espacial se desarrolla a través de la
deconstrucción del aparato cinematográfico y del entorno fílmico, que está constituido por materiales físicos de la película: proyectores, pantallas y celuloide y sus elementos ambientales: tiempo, espacio, luz y sonido. Por lo tanto, yo uso el cine para poner en escena una intervención en un espacio real, enfrentando la división entre lo público y lo privado, fantasía y realidad ".
