Proyecto AMIL is pleased to announce Train to be a Tribe, an exhibition at Proyecto AMIL in Tschlin, Switzerland by Jérémie Sarbach and Flurina Badel.
Train to be a Tribeis a selection of new works and a performance-lecture, that are closely interlinked in both content and form. The eponymous work of the exhibition is a series of large, muscular, kiwi-like sculptures with a strong physical presence. Exhibited in a former stable in Tschlin, their aspect becomes even more animalistic. The relationship between humans and other animals and the nature-culture dichotomy, are two central explorations in Badel / Sarbach’s practice. Exhibited for the first time are the sculptures Cotschen Plantsand the wall piece Cotschen Tongs. The starting point of these two works was the cochineal louse. This animal was pulverized and imported to Europe where it was used as a pigment. The cochineal louse is an animal that has shaped art history and played an important role in various distinct processes and the visualization of power. The cochineal louse is still bred in Peru and exported to Switzerland, mirroring the exchange between the Engadine and Lima, the headquarters of Proyecto AMIL.
On Saturday, August 3, Badel/Sarbach will conduct performance-lecture We, the Foodimals. This is a fruit carving workshop and thought-provoking stimulus about high culture and popular culture in one. This performance-lecture condenses the themes of the exhibition: the triangular relationship of humans-animals-plants, the fruit as a social hotspot, the exhibition as a social hotspot, the use of tools, the presence and absence of the body, and, finally, again and again, the finding of form in sculpture. Badel / Sarbachare an artist-duo that formed in 2014. They grew up in the small mountaineer villages in the Swiss Alps and studied art as a second degree. In 2015, Flurina received her Master's degree and Jérémie his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the Institut Kunst HGK FHNW Basel and at the Cooper Union NYC. Currently Jérémie is completing his Master’s degree in Fine Arts at Institut Kunst HGK FHNW Basel and at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna. Badel / Sarbach’s work has been exhibited in Europe, Canada and the USA. They are laureate of the Manor Kunstpreis 2019 and were nominated for the Basler Medienkunstpreis 2018.

Proyecto AMIL se complace en anunciar Train to be a Tribe, una exhibición de Jérémie Sarbach y Flurina Badel en Proyecto AMIL en Tschlin, Suiza.
Train to be a Tribeconsiste en una selección de nueva obra y una conferencia-performance, estrechamente vinculadas entre sí, tanto en el contenido como en la forma. El trabajo homónimo de la exposición es una serie de esculturas grandes, musculosas, parecidas al kiwi, con una fuerte presencia física. Expuestos en un antiguo establo en Tschlin, su aspecto se vuelve aún más animal.
La relación entre los humanos y otros animales y la dicotomía naturaleza-cultura, son dos exploraciones centrales en la práctica de Badel / Sarbach. Por primera vez se exhiben las esculturas Cotschen Plantsy la pieza de pared Cotschen Tongs. El punto de partida de estas dos obras fue la cochinilla. Este animal era pulverizado e importado a Europa donde se usaba como pigmento. La cochinilla es un animal que ha dado forma a la historia del arte y ha jugado un papel importante en diferentes procesos y en la visualización del poder.La cochinilla todavía se cría en Perú y se exporta a Suiza, lo que refleja el intercambio entre la Engadina y Lima, donde están ubicadas las sedes de Proyecto AMIL.
El sábado 3 de agosto, Badel / Sarbach darán la conferencia-performance We, the Foodimals. Se trata de un taller de tallado de frutas y estímulo para reflexionar sobre la alta cultura y la cultura popular. Esta conferencia-performance condensa los temas de la exposición: la relación triangular entre humanos-animales-plantas, la fruta como un punto de confluencia social, la exposición como un punto de confluencia social, el uso de herramientas, la presencia y ausencia del cuerpo y, finalmente, una y otra vez, el hallazgo de la forma en la escultura. Badel / Sarbaches un dúo de artistas que se formó en 2014. Crecieron en pequeñas aldeas de alpinistas en los Alpes suizos y estudiaron arte como segunda carrera. En 2015, Flurina recibió su maestría y Jérémie su Bachiller en Bellas Artes en el Institut Kunst HGK FHNW Basel y en la Cooper Union NYC. Actualmente, Jérémie cursa su maestría en Bellas Artes en el Institut Kunst HGK FHNW Basel y en la Akademie der Bildenden Künste en Viena. La obra de Badel / Sarbach se ha expuesto en Europa, Canadá y Estados Unidos. Además, han ganado el premio Manor Kunstpreis 2019 y fueron nominados para el Basler Medienkunstpreis 2018.
