The contemporary art mobile platform, Proyecto AMIL, starts in 2018 with its first international collaboration: from Turkey, the Protocinema collective invades Lima with a series of artistic presentations that will take place from January 18 to 31 at the Centro Comercial Camino Real.
Since its founding in 2015, Proyecto AMIL is very clear that its intention is to be a non-commercial space of contemporary art and to function as a bridge between the local and international scene.
Created by Juan Carlos Verme, president of the Board of the Art Museum of Lima (MALI), and curator Joel Yoss, the mobile platform seeks to generate a dialogue away from the mainstream circuit through workshops, screenings, performances, publications, and a lot of collaboration. Precisely, one of the last collaborations of the space is with the collective Protocinema, which will arrive from Turkey for an unprecedented event.
Traveling art
"For me and for Protocinema, projects and work ideas always emerge from relationships," says Mari Spirito, founder of Protocinema. The curator met Juan Carlos and Joel through the artistic community and it was during a conversation in Istanbul that they decided to collaborate together. "They both saw an exhibition by Trevor Paglen for Protocinema and the conversations about doing something in Lima started," says Mari.
That way, they reached the agreement to bring to Lima the Turkish artist Hasan Özgür Top, who will present his new work -on the effects of nationalism and the complex relationship that exists with capitalism- in AMIL Project, commissioned by Protocinema and SAHA (Istanbul).
The exhibition of Hasan Özgür Top will be part of the catalog of artistic proposals that will be presented from January 18 to 31 in the physical space of Protocinema at the Centro Comercial Camino Real.
Alongside the work of the Turkish artist, who will open his exhibition The Atelier (2018) in Lima, Mari Spirito will present a selection of videos curated by herself and the portfolio of emerging artist Ghaith Mofeed (Syria), who will also visit the city to offer a talk
About Protocinema
Like Proyecto AMIL, Protocinema (Turkey, 2011) is a collective open to dialogue and the dissemination of emerging artists. Despite geographical distance, both institutions function as spaces in which their audiences can find critical content that they would not find elsewhere. The platform operates by connecting artists, curators and writers through educational programs in Istanbul, New York and other cities.

La plataforma móvil de arte contemporáneo, Proyecto AMIL, inicia el 2018 con su primera colaboración internacional: desde Turquía, el colectivo Protocinema invade Lima con una serie de presentaciones artísticas que se realizarán del 18 al 31 de enero en el Centro Comercial Camino Real.
Desde su fundación en el 2015, Proyecto AMIL tiene muy en claro que su intención es ser un espacio no comercial de arte contemporáneo y funcionar como un puente entre la escena local e internacional.
Creada por Juan Carlos Verme, presidente del Patronato del Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), y el curador Joel Yoss, la plataforma móvil busca generar un diálogo lejos del circuito ‘mainstream’ a través de talleres, proyecciones, performances, publicaciones, y muchísima colaboración. Justamente, una de las últimas colaboraciones del espacio es con el colectivo Protocinema, que llegará desde Turquía para un evento sin precedentes.
Arte itinerante
“Para mí y para Protocinema, los proyectos y las ideas de trabajo siempre surgen de las relaciones”, dice Mari Spirito, fundadora de Protocinema. La curadora conoció a Juan Carlos y a Joel a través de la comunidad artística y fue durante una conversación en Estambul que decidieron colaborar juntos. “Ambos vieron una exposición de Trevor Paglen para Protocinema y las conversaciones de hacer algo en Lima iniciaron”, cuenta Mari.
Así, llegaron al acuerdo de traer a Lima al artista turco Hasan Özgür Top, quien expondrá su nuevo trabajo -sobre los efectos del nacionalismo y la compleja relación que existe con el capitalismo- en Proyecto AMIL, comisionado por Protocinema y SAHA (Estambul).
La exposición de Hasan Özgür Top formará parte del catálogo de propuestas artísticas que se presentarán del 18 al 31 de enero en el espacio físico de Protocinema en el Centro Comercial Camino Real.
A la par del trabajo del artista turco, que inaugurará su exposición The Atelier (2018) en Lima, Mari Spirito presentará una selección de videos curados por ella misma y el portafolio del artista emergente Ghaith Mofeed (Siria), quien también visitará la ciudad para ofrecer una charla.
Sobre Protocinema
Al igual que Proyecto AMIL, Protocinema (Turquía, 2011) es un colectivo abierto al diálogo y a la difusión de artistas emergentes. A pesar de la distancia geográfica, ambas instituciones funcionan como espacios en los que sus audiencias pueden encontrar contenidos críticos que no encontrarían en otro lugar.
