Sergio Zevallos (Lima, 1962), is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. His work revolves around transcultural identity, gender and the contradictions in the relation between individuals and power, or between the private and public spheres. Together with the German artist Helmut Psotta and the Peruvian artist Raúl Avellaneda, he founded the Chaclacayo group, developing a visceral and provocative work that responded to the violence of the internal armed conflict, but also to the socially rooted sexual and racial discrimination.
Androgynous is a portrait that belongs to a bigger series in which the artist represents hybrid characters emerged from an urban world. The hybrid in them appears in the coexistence of organs, physical forms and dissimilar sexual traits in the same body; as well as in the mixture of all the traits that one can observe at the intersection of two stuck avenues in Lima: news, cheap newspapers, food waste, tight blue jeans, monoxide, urine, luminous signs, children, traffic accidents, religious images, grilled chicken.

Sergio Zevallos (Lima, 1962) es un artista interdisciplinario radicado en Berlín. Su trabajo aborda temas de identidad transcultural, género y las contradicciones inherentes a las relaciones entre individuo y poder, o entre intimidad y los códigos de la vida pública. Junto con el artista alemán Helmut Psotta y el artista peruano Raúl Avellaneda, formó parte del colectivo artístico Chaclacayo, desarrollando una obra visceral y provocadora que respondió a la violencia del conflicto armado interno, pero también a la discriminación sexual y racial socialmente arraigada.
Andróginos es un retrato que pertenece a una serie mayor donde el artista representa personajes híbridos surgidos de un mundo urbano. Lo híbrido en ellos se manifiesta tanto la convivencia de órganos, formas físicas y rasgos sexuales disímiles en un mismo cuerpo; como en el mestizaje de todo lo que uno observa de un sólo vistazo en el cruce de dos avenidas atoradas en Lima: noticias, periódicos baratos, restos de comida, blue jeans apretados, monóxido, orines, letreros luminosos, niños, accidentes de tránsito, imágenes devotas, pollos a la brasa.
